The study aimed to determine variable discriminanating retention of teachers in Islamic private schools in Pattani Province and to develop a discriminant variate in order to predicts the retention and resignation of those teachers. Subjects of the study were two hundreds and forty-six content teachers divided into two groups using purposive sampling technique. The first group was one hundred and thirty-one content teachers who were still on duty while the second was one hundred and fifteen teachers who have resigned from the Islamic private School. Data were collected using questionnaires for quantitative study and semi-structured interview for qualitative study. Eleven variables were used in this study. Discriminant Analysis was used to analyze the data. It was found that the duration of work was the only variable able to discriminate the teachers still on duty in Islamic private schools and those resigned from such schools. It could accurately predict membership of the on-duty teachers at 96.2% and 99.1% for the resigned group. Overall, it was found that the predictive equation was able to accurately predict both groups at 97.6%. Such variable was labeled the factor of job performing duration. As for the information gained from the interviews, teachers require that schools take care of their welfare, provide a clear consideration for salary promotion and offer opportunity for teachers to perform their ability at a full scale. The implications of the study are: the government should seriously sustain education in the private sector and find ways to induct private Islamic School teachers into the government officer unit through efficient and clean criteria.
