ผลการศึกษาพบว่านกไม่ต่ำกว่า 48 ชนิด แพร่กระจายอยู่ทุกพื้นที่ ที่ทำการศึกษา นกน้ำใช้พื้นที่หลายวัตถุประสงค์และมีความหนาแน่นสูงในพื้นที่นาเกลือกูปังอีเต๊ะ และหาดเลนปากน้ำบริเวณมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ วิทยาเขตปัตตานี ในเขตอำเภอเมืองจังหวัดปัตตานี ถือว่าเป็นเขตพื้นที่ซึ่งมีความสำคัญทางนิเวศของนกน้ำ ซึ่งมีศักยภาพสูงพอที่จะสามารถดึงดูดให้นกน้ำ มาไว้พื้นที่เพิ่มมากขึ้นได้ ทิศทางการเปลี่ยนแปลงชนิดและจำนวนของนกน้ำโดยรวมมีแนวโน้มลดลงตามเวลาและพื้นที่ มีข้อน่าสังเกตว่าบางพื้นที่เท่านั้น เช่น ม สงขลานครินทร์ และบางตาวา มีนกเพิ่มขึ้นบ้างซึ่งน่าจะมีสาเหตุมาจากการที่พื้นที่ใช้ประโยชน์ของนกน้ำบริเวณอื่นๆ ถูกรวบกวนจากกิจกรรมของมนุษย์และลดน้อยลง ทำให้นกน้ำมาแย่งใช้พื้นที่ใน 2 บริเวณดังกล่าว ซึ่งมีความปลอดภัยสูงกว่า
A status and some population characteristics of migratory waterbirds in pattani province were inrestigated over seven year periods. The aim of this study wes to monitor a change in species and numder of the waterbirds around pattatni buy and areas nearby. This change could be used as a useful index of the environmental and socioeconomic situations of communities around pattani buy. Direct count of the water birds in areas of 7 villages around pattani buy was performed at one- month intervais for seven years. In addition, interviewing interest grouqs in each village for waterbirds information was aiso carried out. A comparison detween the information on waterbirds from direct count and that from interviewing waas there drawn to evaluate a change in species and quantities in relation to temporai and spatial distribution.
It was found that the waterdirds not less than 48 species were distributed in every areas investigated. These areas were utilized by the waterbirds for multiple purposes. Furthermore,high density of the waterbirds was observerd in sait pans at kupae lte, intertidal mudflat and the river mouth of Prince of University Pattani Campus (PSU) . The areas around muang district in pattani is of ecological importance for the waterbirds and has grest potential for developing into a valuable source of aacademic research and ecotourism in pattani and southern part of Thailand for other areas investigated, although they are not large in terms of guantity they could be more utilized by the waterbirds providing that they are rehabilitated The distribution pattern of the waterbirds in those aresas investigated was found to be high intensity during two periods of the year January-february and September-october There was a slight difference between the distribution patterns with different species of waterbirds. In addition,the overall changes in species quantities of waterbirds were found todecline regarding temporal and distribution. It is worthy to note that there were asignificant increase in numbers and species of the waterbirds in some areas including PSU and Bang Tawa. This could be the consequence of ahuman activity disturbance in other regions around pattani bay contributing to decsese in utilized areas for the birds.the water birds thus migrated to the two areas which are safer than others.
